Confirmation of the UEFA EURO 2020 bid candidates is a key item on the agenda for the next meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee at the Hotel Dubrovnik Palace in Croatia on Thursday and Friday 20 September.

UEFA's Executive Committee, chaired by UEFA President Michel Platini, decided in Lausanne, Switzerland, in December 2012 to stage a "EURO for Europe" in 2020, rather than a tournament in one or two host countries. Then, in January this year, the committee decided that the UEFA EURO 2020 final round would be held in 12 cities around Europe.

The staging of UEFA EURO 2020 across Europe promises to provide a memorable football festival throughout the continent – and give some countries and cities the potential opportunity to be part of an event they may otherwise not be able to host. The submission of bid dossiers and start of the evaluation phase follows in spring 2014, with the Executive Committee set to appoint the host cities next September.

The committee will also hear an update on preparations for the UEFA EURO 2016 finals, which will be played in France in three summers' time, and hear about the latest developments in club licensing and financial fair play. UEFA's latest figures show there has been a €600m reduction in the aggregate losses of Europe's first division clubs in the last financial year, after six years of increasing losses.

The Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) became UEFA's 54th member association at the XXXVII Ordinary UEFA Congress in London in May. At its meeting in Croatia, the Executive Committee will decide on the allocation of places to the GFA in the 2014/15 European club competitions.

The next UEFA Executive Committee meeting is scheduled for 12 and 13 December in Bilbao, Spain.
