Frankfurt's Šašić equals goals record

Celia Šašić of 1. FFC Frankfurt had a spectacular debut European season, finishing as UEFA Women's Champions League top scorer with a joint-record total of 14 goals.

No9 Šašić, prolific at international level for Germany, already had six goals from the rounds of 32 and 16 when she struck a tally of seven over two legs in the semi-final against Brøndby IF. That took the 26-year-old to within one goal of the record jointly held by Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir (2008/09) and Conny Pohlers (2004/05) and in tonight's 2-1 final win against Paris Saint-Germain, Šašić headed the opening goal to make it to 14.

Prior to the semi-finals, Milena Nikolić of ŽFK Spartak looked set to top the table for the second season running thanks to her nine goals in the qualifying round. Another prolific domestic campaign for the Bosnia and Herzegovina forward has confirmed that the Serbian club will return to Europe next term.

Earlier in the season, Anja Mittag of FC Rosengård notched five goals to move to within retired former 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam and Germany team-mate Pohlers's career competition record of 48. Marta, who joined Rosengård last summer, was one of two players this campaign to pass the 40 barrier. The other – Nina Burger of SV Neulengbach – became the first to do so for a single club, surpassing Hanna Ljungberg's previous best of 39 for Umeå IK.
