• Basel took four points off the Viola in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League group stage, winning the group ahead of the Italian side en route to the last 16. The Swiss outfit recovered from an early goal to win 2-1 in Florence before coming from two down to draw 2-2 at home. In both games, Mohamed Elneny scored and Fiorentina ended with ten men. Basel again came from behind in the first leg of the 2022/23 Europa Conference League semi-finals, scoring two second-half goals in a 2-1 victory.

• Fiorentina had players sent off home and away as they took just a point off Basel in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League group stage, finishing runners-up in the group behind the Swiss side en route to the last 32. The Viola led 1-0 at home and 2-0 away but, both times, Basel made their extra man count as they won 2-1 in Florence and drew 2-2 in Switzerland. Fiorentina also slipped to a 2-1 home reverse in the first leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final in 2022/23 despite taking the lead.
